Foster, Almodovar, Lee & Rosset at the Cannes Film Festival: INSIDE LOOK

Cannes Film Festival may have been delayed for two years due to the prevailing situation, but the glow has returned to its glory.

One of the biggest highlights of the event was the speech of American actress Jodie Foster, after receiving the honorary Palme d’Or for Lifetime Achievement from legendary Spanish Director Pedro Almodovar.

In her speech, she encouraged budding women filmmakers to seek their own truth by saying that “this is the moment for women to enter the industry. There is now an awareness that it’s been too long that we haven’t heard stories told by women. This is the moment”.

She continued by saying that Pedro Almodovar was the first feminist Director for her. “It was the first time I’d seen films that talked about women in an authentic way. He is an exception among male directors” she explained while she referred to her experience as a director by saying that “they (male) do not understand how women lead because they’ve never seen women lead. They do not know how to talk to women to convince them of something. They’re afraid because they don’t know how to deal with these situations”.

All in all, Foster, Marceau and Cotillard are not the only women present in this edition of the Cannes Film Festival. This year, Fremaux took an exceptional step by choosing five women to stand alongside acclaimed filmmaker Spike Lee and three other men to represent the international jury awarding the Palme d’Or and other festival prizes.

Another highlight of the French Film Festival was the appearance of the U.S. Director Spike Lee, who wore a vivid pink suit, chimed into the long-running Cannes versus Netflix debate, supporting the platform on which he released “Da 5 Bloods” at the height of pandemic lockdowns last year.

Cypriot Actress and Producer Marianna Rosset, who attended the opening ceremony of the festival met with the Spanish Director and told us that he is one of a kind and so talented.
